- Por fin cara a cara. Sébastien Loeb ha tenido ya su primer encuentro con el 208 T16 Pikes Peak con el que disputará la carrera celebrada a mayor altura del mundo el próximo 30 de junio. El nueve veces Campeón del Mundo de rallyes parece haber encontrado el arma absoluta para la conquista de las nubes. Ya tan solo falta domar la fiera de 875 caballos

Cuando posó su helicóptero en el corazón de la pista de alta seguridad de La Ferté-Vidame, Sébastien Loeb pensaba que iba a probar un coche. Tras unos primeros compases al volante, se dio cuenta de su error. Este 208 T16 Pikes Peak es un auténtico cohete. Tiene una potencia increíble. Al principio, cada cambio de marcha te abruma. Es tan brutal que necesitas un pequeño periodo de adaptación antes de acostumbrarte al golpe que producen las marchas al entrar. Luego, por suerte, te acostumbras pero al principio impresiona muchísimo, declaró el piloto.

Las primeras pruebas al volante del 208 T16 Pikes Peak no han dejado indiferente al piloto francés a pesar de estar muy acostumbrado a las sensaciones fuertes. Gracias a los turbos, jamás había conducido nada que acelerara tanto, se asombra Loeb En las primeras marchas, un Fórmula 1 no entrega nunca todos los caballos de su motor mientras que en este caso, desde que aceleras en primera con las cuatro ruedas motrices y el turbo, acelera de inmediato. Pronto, esta simple sesión de pruebas se convirtió para Sébastien Loeb en una experiencia única y excepcional: He probado ya muchos tipos de coches de competición pero en este caso, las sensaciones han sido diferentes a todo lo que he conducido hasta ahora. Digamos que, a nivel de prestaciones de aceleración y frenada es más un Fórmula 1 que un coche de rallyes. A nivel de comportamiento también porque la adherencia es increíble y las cuatro ruedas motrices contribuyen a estabilizarlo perfectamente. Es realmente un prototipo muy eficaz con un enorme potencial.

Una bestia de carreras debe ser domada a la perfección. En el caso de Sébastien Loeb, está claro que no va dejarse dominar por la fiera sino todo lo contrario. Con sus nueve títulos de Campeón del mundo de rallyes, se pondrá en la piel de un domador, con puño de hierro y la serenidad que otorga la experiencia: He empezado progresivamente porque la pista de pruebas no es muy ancha y no tiene escapatorias. Pero la verdad es que no sé dónde están los límites del coche. Rodar en circuito será una etapa importante para saber exactamente dónde estamos y para calibrar su auténtico potencial. Luego, el objetivo será adaptarse totalmente al coche para afrontar la subida al Pikes Peak. Y eso reclama trabajo...

Este cara a cara hacia la cumbre, promete. Para alcanzar la meta a 4.301 metros de altura, Sébastien Loeb deberá dominar todos los secretos de su pura-sangre y superar las trampas que esperan a ambos en los 20 kilómetros de esta ascensión. Para ello será necesario que el campeón francés y el 208 T16 consigan una ósmosis perfecta.

Para conseguir esta comunión entre piloto y máquina, el equipo Peugeot Sport ha previsto un completo programa de desarrollo que seguirá a esta primera toma de contacto. Habrá pruebas en circuito, en carretera y en altitud en las siguientes etapas preparatorias para este proyecto fuera de lo común que motiva al máximo al campeón del mundo de rallyes: estoy realmente impaciente por ponerme al volante del 208 T16 Pikes Peak en las carreteras de Colorado, afirma Loeb.
